It's Okay To Second Guess Your Wedding Dress Decision | Part Two
It turns out I definitely was not alone when I freaked out over my wedding dress decision. I received so many messages from family, friends, clients and fellow 2017 brides. I am so so so glad that my words resonated with you and helped you digest how you were feeling about your dress.
I just wanted to follow up on the subject because I got married ya'll!, and I can now publicly share the dress I chose!!
For reference, here's dress number one that I initially chose but then canceled the order:
And here's the dress I went back and chose:
Here's our first look and a better look at the dress:
As someone who is really self-conscious about my broader shoulders and not-thin build, I really thought I wanted to appear thin with a whimsical, close-fitting dress with straps. Well a dress isn't going to change my not-flat tummy or my linebacker shoulders. Instead of focusing on my perceived flaws, I found a dress that accentuated what I like about my body, and all I can say now is, if you don't like how I look in my big-ass strapless dress, I'll have to whack you with my big-ass bouquet!
But seriously, I was so caught up in the wedding trends I saw in magazines and online. And that was in addition to everything I heard from fellow wedding photographers. What trends they wanted to photograph and what trends they wanted to go away. It's so much outside pressure, not to mention the inner pressure we put on ourselves. (More on this in the first blog)
It's tough because we don't all look like the models in the styled shoots that are posted everywhere. I don't know about you, but my body did not fit in the dresses I had on my inspo board. And it's tough to feel good about straying from the vision you had of your wedding day. The truth is, the majority of real weddings are not going to look like the styled sessions we see, and our favorite style dress may not be the right wedding dress for us.
Fall in love with the dress that compliments YOU and makes you look and feel gorgeous. Don't solely worry about the trendy styles or what is getting the most attention online or which dresses you like to look at the most. Wear the dress that resonates with how you want to feel and who you want to be on your wedding day.
And for the remainder of this post I want to celebrate that. I want to celebrate how amazing it is that we all aren't going to look like a styled session. How amazing it is that we get to ROCK all different styles of dresses. And that is exactly what I damn well did on my wedding day and exactly what all of these Valentia Productions' brides did too. Here's proof:
So many different styles and all SO GORGEOUS! Please share your wedding dress experiences in the comments or by contacting me! I am so pumped to photograph more of you gorgeous brides rocking your wedding dresses that are perfect for you!
